Windows 11 Gets Smarter! Now You Can Resume Android Apps Directly on Your PC

Windows 11 to Let Users Resume Android Apps Seamlessly on PC

Microsoft is working on a new Windows 11 feature that will allow users to continue Android app activity directly on their computer. The functionality is currently being tested with Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels, with early access limited to Spotify.

How the Feature Works

This upcoming integration enables users to pick up tasks where they left off on their phone. For example, if someone starts playing music on the Spotify mobile app, Windows 11 will display a notification saying “Resume from your phone.” With just a click, users can choose “Continue on this PC,” instantly resuming the session.

Once selected, the system will either open the Spotify desktop app (if already installed) or prompt the user to download it, allowing playback to continue without interruption.

The feature relies on Microsoft’s Phone Link integration, which requires users to connect their Android devices with their PC. After linking, the system automatically detects supported apps and displays handoff-style prompts in Windows 11’s notification center.

Similarities to Apple’s Handoff

This new capability is being compared to Apple’s Handoff feature on macOS and iOS, which lets users transition between devices effortlessly. However, unlike Apple’s broader support for apps and browsing sessions, Microsoft’s first rollout is limited to Spotify only.

At this stage, Microsoft has not revealed which other apps will eventually be supported. Still, experts believe the feature could expand to emails, web browsing, and document editing, making it an important step toward cross-device productivity.

What’s Next?

The functionality was initially spotted in a Build 2025 demo (later deleted), indicating Microsoft’s long-term plan to strengthen the Windows and Android ecosystem. If expanded, this feature could transform how users switch between their smartphones and PCs, placing Windows 11 in closer competition with Apple’s seamless ecosystem.
