PTA Announces Free Mobile Calls in Flood-Affected Areas
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that mobile operators will provide free on-net voice calls to users in regions severely impacted by floods. The initiative, revealed on Tuesday, is part of the national relief efforts to ensure people remain connected during widespread communication disruptions caused by the disaster.
According to PTA, subscribers in flood-hit areas can now make same-network calls without any mobile balance, helping families stay in touch and enabling better access to emergency services. The move aims to reduce communication barriers at a time when many people are struggling with damaged infrastructure and financial hardships.
The authority also shared that over 72% of the affected telecom sites have already been restored, while restoration work continues to bring the remaining sites back online. PTA confirmed that it is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates to the public as progress is made.
Reaffirming its commitment, the PTA stated that it will work closely with mobile operators to maintain service quality in the affected areas. The regulator also emphasized transparency and assured that timely information will be shared to keep citizens fully informed during this recovery phase.
