Zong and ZTE Unveil World’s First 8x120W Ultra-Broadband Radio with Digital Intelligent Antenna in Pakistan
Islamabad – Zong 4G, Pakistan’s leading digital and data network, in partnership with ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a global leader in ICT solutions, has announced the successful commercial launch of the world’s first 8T8R Ultra-Broadband Radio (HP 8T8R UBR) integrated with a Digital Intelligent Antenna (DIA) solution.
This pioneering development not only sets a global benchmark but also marks a major milestone in Pakistan’s telecom sector. ZTE’s new HP 8T8R UBR delivers the industry’s highest power capacity (8x120W) for FDD dual bands – 1800MHz and 2100MHz – which serve as the backbone of Zong’s nationwide network.
High-Performance and Cost-Efficient Network Innovation
The advanced RRU high-integration design allows a single unit to replace multiple legacy RRUs, reducing up to 67% of equipment per tower. This consolidation simplifies installation, cuts down antenna space requirements, lowers infrastructure costs, and makes network deployments faster and more efficient.
When paired with ZTE’s Digital Intelligent Antenna (DIA), the system provides software-defined beamforming capabilities, enabling either two 4T4R cells for existing networks or one 8T8R cell for next-generation 5G-ready networks.
To further optimize deployment in challenging environments, Zong and ZTE are testing the “422 site model,” which uses one 4T4R cell and two 2T2R cells per site. This design is particularly effective for locations where space and power availability are limited.
Record-Breaking Network Results
Zong’s initial rollout of the new technology has already delivered impressive outcomes:
